KATIE GRACE'S BODY WALKS A MARATHON DAILY TO SURVIVE
When she was eleven days old, Katie Grace Groebner (born July 16, 2002) of Mankato, MN, began fainting.
At age three, Katie Grace developed a heart murmur that doctors said she would outgrow. In February 2008, tests
showed that Katie Grace had pulmonary hypertension curable only by a heart lung transplant. In August 2008, the
Groebners moved to Clayton, CA, to began treatment at Stanford Hospital. Although Katie Grace receives
medication by vein 24 hours a day, she will cheer runners and walkers at the finish.
FIGHTING FOR KURTIS IS A FAMILY AFFAIR
When he was five days old, Kurtis Lindsay (born November 26, 2003) of Reno, NV, had surgery for Hypoplastic
Left Heart Syndrome. After two additional heart surgeries, the Lindsay family moved to Palo Alto in October 2006
to wait for a heart donor. After receiving a new heart on December 7, 2006, Kurtis' blue lips turned pink for the
first time. Kurtis loves his older brother, EJ, and his dog, Karlee. Kurtis will cheer his
family and friends when teams Fighting for Kurtis 1 & 2 cross the finish.
DONNA LEADS LIVER ON THE EDGE WALKERS
In 2003 at age 53, Donna Montana of Walnut Creek, CA, learned that she had liver disease. In October 2004,
Donna moved to Florida to wait for an organ donor. Donna received a liver on February 12, 2005, which failed.
After remaining in a coma for four days, Donna received a second liver on February 16, 2005, from a
39-year-old Georgia woman. In addition to working as a Vice President for First Bank, Donna registers organ
donors at the Walnut Creek DMV. After leading her team for four years, Donna will participate as a

promoting donation through The Relay and other events. Since 1997, ORU Kiddie
Pede children have walked to victory in the Bay to Breakers.
