GG RELAY WALK 2014 DEDICATION TO KATIE GRACE, KURTIS, GRANT
THROUGH ORGANS R US ("ORU"), THE GOLDEN GATE RELAY WALK
promotes the need for organs. Since 2005, the transfer of the baton from walker to walker has symbolized
the transfer of an organ from donor to recipient.
KATIE GRACE'S BODY WALKS A MARATHON DAILY TO SURVIVE
When she was eleven days old, Katie Grace Groebner (born July 16, 2002) of Mankato, MN, began fainting.
At age three, Katie Grace developed a heart murmur. After Katie Grace was found to have pulmonary hypertension
curable only by a heart lung transplant, the Groebners moved to Clayton, CA, in 2008 to began treatment at
Stanford Hospital. Although Katie Grace receives medication by vein 24 hours a day, she will cheer runners and
walkers at the finish.
FIGHTING FOR KURTIS (Nov. 26, 2003 - May 6, 2011)
When he was five days old, Kurtis Lindsay of Reno, NV, had surgery for Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. After two
additional heart surgeries, the Lindsay family moved to Palo Alto in 2006 to wait for a heart donor. After
receiving a new heart on December 7, 2006, Kurtis' blue lips turned pink for the first time. Kurtis loved his
older brother, EJ, and his dog, Karlee. After developing coronary disease in April 2011, Kurtis was placed on
the transplant wait list. Sadly, a heart donor was not available. With Kurtis cheering from above, Kurtis' Angels
teams 1 & 2 will cross the GGRW finish.
GRANT RETURNS TO DELIVER THE ORGAN DONATION MESSAGE
In 1991, Grant Fullerton (born September 1, 1943 in Denver, CO), was diagnosed with Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis.
While working as a school administrator, Grant began waiting for a liver in 2001. While Grant was sick
in bed, Grant's wife, Donna, thanked each GGR captain at the start of the GGR 2003. Grant received a
new liver three weeks later on November 5, 2003, regained his health and volunteered at the 2004 GGR. Although
they now live in Austin, TX, Grant and Donna will be giving out medals and hugs at the GGRW finish.
ORU RELAYS THE MESSAGE BY GENERATING PUBLICITY WORTH $25 MILLION
promoting donation through the GGRW and other events. Since 1997, ORU
Kiddie Pede children have walked to victory in the Bay to Breakers.
